The website of confoki ("Content for Kids"), an integrated system for the protection of minors, will be established here. confoki will be based on the ICRA labelling system of the Family Online Safety Institute.
ICRA labels
Die ICRA Labels bauen auf der Selbstregulierungs-Kraft des Internets auf. Websitebetreiber können ihre Seiten kostenlos mit computerlesbaren Labels ausstatten und darin festhalten, welche Arten von Inhalten auf ihrer Website zu finden sind.
Auf der anderen Seite können Eltern in eigenen Programmen einstellen, welche Inhalte ihr Kind sehen darf und welche nicht. Weltweit wurden bereits mehrere zehntausend Websites mit ICRA Labels gekennzeichnet.

browser plug-in
Das Projekt confoki wird die Funktionalität der ICRA Labels nun erstmals in Browser Plugins integrieren. Es muß also keine eigene Software installiert werden, die Eltern können alle gewünschten Einstellungen direkt in ihrem Webbrowser (Internet Explorer oder Firefox) vornehmen.
Die Plugins werden für Windows XP und Vista, Mac OS X und Linux zur Verfügung stehen. Darüber hinaus bietet confoki eine spezialisierte Search Engine, die ausschließlich mit ICRA Labels versehene Seiten in ihren Index aufnehmen wird.
Durch das Zusammenspiel von Plugins und Search Engine wird den Eltern ein komplettes Jugendschutzsystem zur Verfügung stehen, das nicht nur verhindert, dass die Kinder auf ungeeignete Seiten geraten, sondern es ihnen auch ermöglicht, geeignete Seiten leicht aufzufinden.

wird unter einer Open Source Lizenz veröffentlicht.

ICRA labels
ICRA labels harness the Internet's inherent power of self-regulation. Web site owners are invited to add computer-readable labels to their sites, defining the site content according to a list of descriptors.
At the same time, parents can configure their computers to display only the content they want their children to see. Tens of thousands of sites worldwide are already labelled with ICRA.

browser plug-in
Through the confoki project, for the first time the functionality of ICRA labels will be integrated into browser plug-ins. There will be no need to install software; parents will be able to make the necessary adjustments directly through their web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox).
The plug-ins will be available for Windows XP and Vista, Mac OS X and Linux. Furthermore, confoki will offer a specialised search engine, which will only index sites with ICRA labels.
Through the combination of plug-in and search engine, parents will have access to a complete system for the protection of minors, which not only stops kids from accessing unwanted sites but allows them to easily find sites which are appropriate for them.
The browser plug-ins will be available free of charge, and the source code for the whole project will be placed under an open source license.
